A warning has been issued about a St. Thomas man currently living in New Hamburg. Gregory Zehr, 44, was arrested on June 4. The London Police Service said he lured a woman into his car under false pretences and abducted her at knifepoint. Zehr allegedly drove the woman to the area of Oxford Street East and Mornington Avenue, where she was sexually assaulted. Investigators identified the vehicle first, which led them to Zehr. He was charged with sexual assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, kidnapping, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and uttering threats of death or bodily harm. Zehr was released Wednesday on bail, prompting a public safety notice from the Waterloo Regional Police Service. They said Zehr had to abide by the following conditions: he must live in New Hamburg and remain at the property 24 hours a day unless in the presence of surety, have no access to a computer or the internet, and cannot have weapons. “WRPS is releasing this information because it believes doing so is necessary for public safety and to keep the public informed,” they said in a media release. Police also urged the public not to approach Zehr. If he breaches his bail conditions, they should contact 911 immediately.
