Some neighbours are raising questions after fencing was put up around a green space in Kitchener. Late last week, the Region of Waterloo set up the barricades on Weber Street near Guelph Street. Meanwhile, just a block to the south, fencing has surrounded a plot of land near Wilhelm Street for several months. “There’s been some curiosity, yes,” Daniel, a resident who lives nearby told CTV News. “Being stopped on the street by other people from the neighbourhood asking if we’ve heard from anyone about what’s going on.” Several residents said they were not told what the fencing was for. “There has been some speculations about new fiber optic cables, or whether it is something to do with the encampments that is happening on Victoria Street,” Daniel said. CTV News reached out to the region for answers, but did not receive a concrete answer. “These properties have been fenced for safety as there has been demolition and site maintenance work ongoing. Plans for this site are in preliminary stages, with more information coming forward to Council in the future,” an emailed statement from Waterloo Region to CTV News said. The region did not specify when more details would be coming. For now, neighbours are left wondering about the fences’ purposes. “There’s more speculation for sure,” Danial said. “It’s curiosity. What is the actual plan of what’s happening?”
