A man from Guelph has been charged after police said he intentionally drove into a river. A witness called the Guelph Police Service just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday and said they had seen two males in a Jeep driving along a pedestrian path at the skatepark on Wellington Street West. Police said the driver then intentionally drove approximately 600 metres into the Speed River. When officers arrived, they found the jeep still half-submerged in the water under the Hanlon Expressway. A 53-year-old man from Guelph has been charged with careless driving and failure to display two licence plates.
