The Guelph Police Service says new leads could help them close the city’s oldest unsolved homicide case. On Aug. 25, 2005, residents on Elizabeth Street awoke at 4 a.m. to the sound of a man screaming for help. Gus Fourtounes, 40, was found with stab wounds in his chest. Neighbours called 911 and tried to help the injured man but he died a short time later in hospital. “Guelph Police Service investigators have gone over the case countless times; interviewing and re-interviewing more than 100 people,” a media release explained. “Nobody has ever been charged with Fourtounes’ murder.” Police said Fourtounes, a father of two, was involved in the city’s drug scene. “Investigators have suspected that others within that circle knew who was responsible but feared coming forward,” they said. Residents on Elizabeth Street also told CTV News in 2005 that there had been a recent increase in drug activity in the area. “We know there are people out there who could provide information which would let us finally solve this case,” Det. Const. Scott Biser said. “We need those people to come forward. Someone has gotten away with murder for 20 years and Mr. Fourtounes’ remaining family members deserve closure.” Investigators ask anyone with information to contact the Guelph Police Service’s Major Crim Unit at mcu@guelphpolice.ca.
