London Transit is asking for an additional $2 million in the city’s 2027 budget to cover rising diesel costs and maintain recent service improvements. A staff report going before the commission next week recommends asking city hall for the additional funding to address higher diesel costs and make recent transit service improvements permanent. London Transit Commission general manager Kelly Paleczny says most of the increase is related to the rising cost of diesel fuel. “A majority of this is the diesel fuel prices,” Paleczny said. “The other piece is there was some additional service hours that were added as part of the 2026 service plan by the commission. They were funded in 2026 through reserves, but now we’re looking for that permanent source of funding.” Staff also noted the commission has come in $2.1 million under budget over the past two years. The commission is expected to consider the funding request at its meeting next week.
