A rugby park in Ottawa’s southwest end will be closed until further notice following a structure fire on the park grounds on Friday. According to statement on social media from Ottawa Fire Services, fire crews responded to a reported fire at Twin Elm Rugby Park in Richmond at approximately 9:37 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy black smoke coming from a structure at the park, and immediately turned off several large propane tanks located near the building. The flames were located inside a mechanical room. There were no occupants inside the building and no injuries reported, and the fire was declared under control at 10:08 a.m. In a post on social media, Twin Elm Rugby Park said the park would be closed temporarily. “As many of you have heard, there was a fire at Twin Elm Rugby Park this morning. Everyone is safe. The facility will be closed until further notice as we assess the situation,” Twin Elm Rugby Park said. “We’ll keep the rugby community updated as things evolve. Thank you for your continued support!” An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was dispatched to determine the origin and cause of the blaze. “Ottawa Fire Services extends its support to the rugby community as they recover from this incident,” the statement reads.
