The family of Danika Robert-Arsenault, 27, who was killed earlier this month in a hunting incident, has set up a fundraiser to help pay for her funeral costs. Her husband, Justin Arsenault, 28, was seriously injured in the same incident and remains in hospital. The GoFundMe was created by Chloé Arsenault, Justin’s sister. “Justin is still recovering from the injuries he sustained during the incident while facing the unimaginable grief of losing his wife,” Chloé said in the fundraiser. “My hope is to ease some of the financial burden so he can focus on healing, grieving, and finding his way forward with the support of his family.” A 28-year-old man has been charged with several offences in connection with the Oct. 14 hunting incident, which took place east of Ottawa. It took place in an open field in the Township of Alfred-Plantagenet at around 5:45 p.m. The OPP says three people were hunting together when a firearm was discharged, “striking two individuals.” The Sudbury man has been charged with causing death by criminal negligence (firearm), criminal negligence causing bodily harm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition. Robert-Arsenault was a lab tech at Health Sciences North and lived in Azilda, but grew up in Earlton. “Danika was a truly kind and gentle soul,” her obituary said. “She had a heart of gold and a kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was the kind of person who couldn’t hurt a fly. She cared deeply for the people around her and had a way of making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and comfortable simply by being herself.” A celebration of life will be held for her Nov. 14 at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home in New Liskeard.
