A 40-year-old Barrie man faces more than a dozen charges after Ontario Provincial Police recovered a stolen vehicle and seized a prohibited weapon and suspected cannabis in West Nipissing this week. OPP said officers responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle on Front Street in West Nipissing at about 5:50 p.m. on July 22. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Barrie. App assists in recovery “The vehicle owner was able to track its location using a mobile application, assisting officers in locating the vehicle,” OPP said in a news release Thursday. Police said officers found the stolen vehicle and arrested the driver without incident – recovering the stolen property. Cannabis, weapons seized “As part of the investigation, officers conducted a search incident to arrest and seized a prohibited weapon and a quantity of suspected cannabis,” OPP said. According to police, the accused was also found to be driving while under a suspended licence. Lengthy list of charges As a result of the investigation, the Barrie man was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a weapon, driving a motor vehicle with cannabis readily available, driving while under a suspension and one other weapon offence. In addition, he was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and seven counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for July 23 in North Bay.
