A Martensville-based construction company and driver are facing charges after an oversized load struck and damaged a Saskatoon overpass on March 11. The City of Saskatoon says two charges have been issued in relation to the 108th Street incident, one against the driver and one against Keylee Contracting Ltd. The charges include two counts of operating a vehicle in a manner that causes damage to city infrastructure. On March 11, a semi hauling oversized equipment travelling northbound on Circle Drive struck the overpass at 108th Street, causing significant damage to multiple girders. The truck, which was carrying an excavator on a flatbed, struck the overpass at about 5 p.m. The incident was the second in a series of overpass strikes in Saskatoon. At the time, police said the driver was charged with failing to complete a daily inspection, exceeding height restrictions, exceeding the dimension limits of a permit, and driving without due care and attention. A report from administration also said the drivers and companies involved in the March 5 and March 11 incidents did not have a daily or annual Saskatoon truck permit. In June, a driver was fined $11,200 in connection with the March 5 crash. The incident occurred at the interchange of Highways 11 and 16, where a flatbed trailer carrying a large, tracked excavator hit the cloverleaf overpass. The city estimates it will cost at least $900,000 to repair four damaged overpasses and one bridge that were struck over a roughly three-week period in March.
