A 27-year-old woman is facing several charges, including possessing a stun gun, following an incident on Highway 17 near Espanola on Oct. 27. Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a traffic patrol around 8:45 p.m. in McKerrow when officers spotted a speeding pickup truck. “During the patrol, police observed an orange pickup truck travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed,” the OPP said in a news release Oct. 28. “A traffic stop was initiated near Spooner and Hardwood Roads. During the investigation, officers located a prohibited weapon commonly known as a stun gun.” The Sudbury woman was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon, weapons possession for a dangerous purpose, stunt driving and speeding. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Dec. 7. “While officers were addressing a speeding violation in this incident, the investigation also resulted in the seizure of a prohibited weapon,” police said. “Motorists are reminded that excessive speed puts all road users at risk and that police will continue to hold offenders accountable.”
