While many are looking ahead to Halloween, some already have Christmas on their radar. In Sudbury this week, details were released for the 68th annual Santa Claus parade. Organizers also announced the route for the Nov. 21 parade. The parade will use the same path as last year, starting at the Notre Dame Avenue-Ste Anne Road intersection, then moving along Elgin Street to Elm Street, down Durham Street, up Larch Street to Lisgar Street before heading back up to Elm Street and Notre Dame Avenue. The section of Notre Dame between Kathleen Street and Ste Anne Road -- used for marshalling -- will be closed as of 1 p.m. the day of the parade. Streets close at 3 p.m. Nov. 21 Streets along the parade route will close at 3 p.m. Organizers said this week that, so far, about 30 floats have registered. The 2025 parade had 90 floats in total. The theme this year is ‘A very merry Sudbury Christmas.’ “Sudbury is a community of very diverse neighbourhoods and very diverse cultures,” said Brian Howe, chair of the Sudbury Santa Claus Parade committee. “As a result of that, we’re expecting that various groups will put in a float that reflects that.” “There are so many unique traditions to Sudbury. I think this is an opportunity for people to celebrate that -- whether it’s Porketta, Little Ski-Doo, so many things that are near and dear and cultural to Sudbury,” said Jeff MacIntyre, executive director of Downtown Sudbury. The parade event begins with a fireworks display at 5:15 p.m. Then the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. “We get about 30,000 people,” MacIntyre said of the event. “It’s a huge event. It’s probably the biggest squeeze of an event all year long, in the city. People came from all over.” Organizers are also looking for more volunteers for the event.
