A young person from Greater Sudbury who is still in elementary school has published a series of colouring books in both English and French. Charlotte Lecuyer, who is from Garson, said an event last December when the family was forced from their home triggered the Grade 4 student to start the project. “Firefighters had to evacuate our family and our cat, Solo, after there was a gas leak in our neighbourhood,” Charlotte said. “We spent the day in the fire truck and in a police car.” Her mother, Chantal, said the family initially decided to write one story during the Christmas break. “We were going to write one colouring book and then Charlotte liked rainbows so much we decided to write another,” Chantal said. She added that Charlotte wanted to pen seven books because there are seven colours in the rainbow. The soft-spoken Charlotte said that in the books, Solo heads out on new adventures. “Solo the pirate is going to meet the capybara, which will be a teal colour,” she said. “Solo the pirate cat is also going to meet a new family.” The youngster said she and Solo are best friends, and the feline inspires her along the way to tell more stories about his adventures.
