Mounties in Metro Vancouver say they were called to assist a feathered individual in distress on Friday afternoon. Mounties say they were called to a section of Haney Bypass near 227 Street in Maple Ridge with requests to help an “injured ‘falcon’ that was causing a road safety hazard.” “Sometimes there’s a first for everything,” Maple Ridge RCMP wrote in a social media post. Police say responding officers found a bird on the road, a stretch connecting Highway 7 to Haney, suffering from an apparent broken wing. “Relying on their limited birds of prey expertise, officers carefully moved the bird onto a nearby branch for his talons to hold on to and lifted him into an open cardboard box,” Mounties explained. Police say a pet ambulance volunteer was called to the scene to transported to the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. Maple Ridge RCMP thanked the concerned local who called in the incident, as well as the pet ambulance driver and those at OWL. “Officers were also advised that, if the hawk is properly rehabilitated, they could be part of the release proceedings,” police said. “All in all, a successful raptor rescue!”
