Vancouver residents will elect a new mayor, council, park board and school board in the municipal election next month. As always, it will be a long ballot. There are eight candidates for mayor, 56 candidates vying for 10 seats on council, 35 candidates for seven seats on the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, and 31 candidates for nine Vancouver School Board trustee positions. To prevent candidates with surnames near the beginning of the alphabet from having an advantageous position near the top of the ballot, the city holds a draw to determine a random order in which the names will appear. Each name is also assigned a corresponding number to make it easier for voters to locate their preferred candidate. Advance voting for the 2026 municipal election will begin on Saturday, Oct. 3, with 59 polling places open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Additional advance voting days will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, Saturday, Oct. 10, and Tuesday, Oct. 13. Residents can also request a vote by mail package through the city’s website or by calling 311. Election Day is Saturday, Oct. 17. There will be 85 polling places open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
