A 22-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder following a fatal house fire on St. John’s Avenue last week. According to police, officers responded to a home in the 300 block of the street for a reported fire. A 35-year-old man, a 53-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were taken to hospital in critical condition, suffering from “life-altering burns,” according to a news release. The woman was released from the hospital, while the two men remained in critical condition. A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene and initially charged with three counts each of aggravated assault and arson causing bodily harm, along with break and enter to commit arson and possession of incendiary material. He was detained in custody. On Saturday, police said the 35-year-old man injured in the fire died from his injuries. He was later identified as Mark Bosadas Marmeto. Police said Manitoba Justice was consulted and additional charges were authorized. Ismail Abdihakim Ali was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. He remains in custody. None of the charges have been proven in court.
