Southern Manitoba is getting a summer soaking on Friday. Rain associated with a low-pressure trough in the northern US reached southwestern Manitoba overnight. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a yellow warning for rainfall from the southwest corner of the province, as far north as the southern border of Riding Mountain National Park. The weather agency warns that total rainfall amounts of 50-70 mm is expected, adding the heaviest rainfall is expected from Estevan, Saskatchewan through Virden and Shoal Lake in Manitoba. Surrounding regions to the east and north of the warned area are under a special weather statement, where ECCC expects 20-50 mm of rainfall. Dauphin, already soaked by summer rains, is among the communities under the statement. Rain and showers are expected to continue across the southwest into Friday night before tapering off overnight. Meanwhile, lighter showers already reached Winnipeg and the southeast by Friday morning. They will likely continue, at least intermittently, in the afternoon. If you are planning to attend outdoor events Friday evening including the Bomber game or Burt Block Party, dress for soggy weather. The heaviest rain is expected in Winnipeg and surrounding areas late Friday night and overnight. Rain will continue Saturday morning, then is expected to taper off in the afternoon. Brighter skies will return Sunday to the city with a mix of sun and clouds with a seasonal daytime high in the mid-20s.
