New voter information letters will soon be on their way for residents of Barrie’s ward 10. The ward is situated in Barrie’s southeast corner. Its boundaries are everything within city limits north of Lockhart Road and east of Yonge Street and south of Big Bay Point Road and west of 20th Sideroad. In a statement shared on Thursday, the city says there was a misprint on the first round of letters issued to residents. “An error by the city’s third-party print vendor caused the incorrect ward number to be listed on voter information letters mailed to Ward 10 residents,” says Wendy Cooke, City Clerk, via the statement. “This issue is limited to Ward 10; all other voter information letters are valid and accurate,” Cooke says. The city confirmed to CTV News that the initial letters for Ward 10 appeared to be addressed to Ward 1 but otherwise were issued to the correct addresses and with the correct localized voter information. Ward 10 residents are now being asked by the city to keep an eye out for specially marked letter envelopes with yellow address panels. Those letters, the city says, will be clearly marked “updated voter information.” The city says the original personal identification numbers issued to voters in Ward 10 have been deactivated and cannot be used to vote as residents are expected to use the pins provided in the new letters. The city encourages residents to destroy the previously issued letters. The new letters are expected to begin arriving by Monday.
