Alberta’s chief electoral officer has confirmed a byelection date for a Calgary riding vacated earlier this year. Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure said Monday the writ was issued to hold the byelection in the riding the of Calgary-Shaw on Sept. 14. The seat for that riding has been vacant since May when former minister of environment and protected areas Rebecca Schulz resigned after a recall petition was launched against her. Candidate nominations are open until Aug. 27 at 2 p.m., and advanced voting runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 12. Anyone who is a Canadian citizen at least 18 years of age on election day who lives in the riding can cast a ballot. Electors can register to vote online until Sept. 2, or can register at their assigned voting location on election day.
