Alberta RCMP have confirmed a person drowned at a popular swimming destination in Banff National Park over the weekend. The Mounties say a body was recovered from Johnson Lake — a swimming hole about 11 kilometres northeast of the Banff townsite — at about 7:09 p.m. on Sunday. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Gina Slaney said the death is not considered to be suspicious. She did not release any details about the victim, saying their next of kin hadn’t yet been notified. It’s the second drowning in the Rocky Mountains’ waterways of the weekend as RCMP continue to investigate the death of a 52-year-old Canmore man whose body was found in the Bow River on Sunday morning. Mounties say that person was determined to be dead at the scene and they are investigating the circumstances of their death.
