Crews will begin picking up fall yard waste starting next week. Residents will have two collection days dedicated to yard waste scheduled on Mondays between Sept. 28 and Nov. 23. Collection dates can be found online. Yard waste can be put in clear plastic or double-ply paper bags and set out on the assigned collection days. There is no limit to the number of yard waste bags per household, but the city asks that bags be light enough to lift with one arm to make lifting easier for collectors. Eco Stations and the Edmonton Waste Management Centre will also accept yard waste free of charge but materials must be loose or in paper bags. Yard waste brought in plastic bags must be emptied on site. Elm wood is not allowed in yard waste in order to prevent Dutch elm disease. Residents are asked to prune elm trees during pruning season between Oct. 1 and March 31. Pruned elm wood must be burned immediately or taken to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre so it can be handled appropriately.
