Fencing is up around Whispering Point at Kìwekì Point in Ottawa as crews repair damage done by an errant school bus that was driven onto the popular lookout late last year. The wooden overhang at Whispering Point sustained visible damage in December 2025. Surveillance footage showed a school bus had been driven onto the pathway and scraped some of the wooden beams. The National Capital Commission (NCC) called the damage “significant.” Fencing was up around Whispering Point on Thursday, with signage saying the area is temporarily closed for repairs. “Repairs are expected to be completed later this fall,” the sign says. Nearby trails and the Pìdàban Footbridge will remain open and accessible throughout the repair work, the NCC says. CTV News Ottawa has reached out to the NCC for more information about the repairs. The NCC opened Kìwekì Point to the public in May 2025 after a $45-million rehabilitation project, which included a new pedestrian bridge and the architectural shelter at Whispering Point. Ottawa police said no criminal charges would be laid because of the damage, but the NCC said it would seek “full monetary compensation.”
