A Calgary man has been charged after a significant quantity of suspected cocaine was seized during a traffic stop in Manitoba on Wednesday afternoon. RCMP stopped an SUV near Portage la Prairie at 12:40 p.m. After speaking with the driver, Mounties called the Manitoba First Nations Police Service to help and to bring their police dog to the scene. RCMP said the dog smelled narcotics and the vehicle was searched. Officers found 34 kilograms of suspected cocaine in packages. Thirty-four kilograms of cocaine have an estimated street value of approximately $850,000, according to RCMP. Samples from the packages have been sent to Health Canada for confirmation. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Calgary, was arrested and charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was detained in custody and the charge has not been proven in court.
