The Kitchener Rangers spoiled the Owen Sound Attack’s home opener with a 4-1 win Friday night. Kitchener took a 2-0 lead before Owen Sound’s Pierce Mbuyi scored to cut the deficit to one after two periods. The Rangers shut down the Attack in the final period, allowing just six shots while adding two more goals to secure their first win of the season. Tanner Lam scored twice for Kitchener, including the eventual game-winning goal during the power play, along with the first empty net goal. Ryder Roberson, a Cambridge native, scored Kitchener’s first goal of the season. It was the first Ontario Hockey League goal of his career. Kitchener goaltender Jason Schaubel stopped all but one of Owen Sound’s shots on goal, giving him just one goal allowed through each of the Rangers’ first two games of the season. The Rangers will host the Erie Otters on Friday, with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
