A Vancouver man was walking home from picking up takeout Monday evening when he found out he won one of the region’s most-coveted annual prizes. The winner of this year’s PNE Prize Home is 73-year-old Douglas Rotar. He now holds the keys to a $2.3-million house in Surrey. It spans 4,117 square feet and has seven bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, including a two-bedroom suite. Rotar got to check out his new home that night. “This is amazing. I can’t believe it,” he told CTV News. “And it’s so big; so many rooms.” “The Prize Home is such a special part of the PNE Fair, and there’s nothing quite like the moment when we get to tell the winner that the home is theirs,” Shelley Frost, president and CEO of the PNE, said in a news release. “We’re delighted to congratulate Douglas Rotar on this incredible prize. This year’s home is an exceptional showcase of design, craftsmanship and innovation, and we hope it will be a wonderful place for Douglas to call home for many years to come.” In addition, close to $800,000 went out to Langley man Lloyd Law, the winner of the 50/50 draw. More than 500,000 Prize Home tickets were sold during the PNE this year.
