Quebec sporting goods and outdoor retailer La Cordée has filed for creditor protection for the second time in six years. The notice of intention was filed under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act on July 11, giving the chain 30 days of legal protection from creditors while it prepares a proposal to repay its debts. According to documents obtained through the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada, the company, founded in 1953, owes more than $17 million in liabilities, including to lenders and suppliers. In 2020, the retailer also experienced financial difficulties and sought creditor protection while it underwent restructuring. La Cordée, which operates five outdoor equipment stores across Quebec, was subsequently acquired by MACH Capital. At the end of 2024, Robert Brunet, founder of Le Yéti, was appointed the company’s CEO. The company’s main shareholders are British holding company Livewire Outdoor Investments Limited, Malo Trust and Saudi Arabia-based Vision SH Investment LLC.
