The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation takes place on Sept. 30 every year and is meant to recognize residential school survivors and their families. Here are some events that are taking place in Regina, along with what city services are closed. Victoria Park From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Circle Project and Friends will be hosting an Honour Walk. Afterwards, individuals will be encouraged to share messages of hope and reconciliation. Organizers say everyone is welcome to attend. mâmawêyatitân Centre A free event featuring a pipe ceremony, a presentation by residential school survivor Blair Stonechild, traditional drumming, jingle dress dancing, language lessons and interactive booths will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The pipe ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m., with the program to begin at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided at 12:30 p.m. Royal Saskatchewan Museum A screening of the documentary If An Owl Calls Your Name (2025) will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. The screening will begin with a welcome and opening blessing from Elder Brenda Dubois. From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Dubois will host a Forgiveness Walk, described as a metaphorical journey through her life. Small groups will then be invited to reflect on what they learned from the day. The day will end with a reciprocity handshake. Regina Public Library From 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on the mezzanine at the central location, Betty Ann Adam will be speaking about her experience as an intergenerational survivor of the residential school system and as a child of the Sixties Scoop. There will also be an opening blessing, greetings from library leaders, a drum honour song, a jingle dance performance, followed by tea and Bannock with the community. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dunlop Art Gallery, a talking circle will be hosted by David Garneau, discussing issues such as the role of art and the artist, as well Metis and Indigenous identities at home and away from home. What’s open and closed? Some City of Regina services will be closed on Wednesday or operating on a reduced schedule. All civic offices will be closed. The landfill will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with entry gates closing at 5:15 p.m. The yard waste depot will be closed. Waste collection will be picked up as usual. Regina Transit will be using the Sunday routes and schedule but the Information Centre and RIDELine will be closed. Paratransit service will be operating on a holiday schedule from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The North West Leisure Centre and the Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre will both be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Sportplex – Fieldhouse and Lawson Aquatic Centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre will be closed. The office for the Riverside Memorial Park and Regina Cemeteries will be closed but gates will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Parking meters will not be in effect.
