A proposed new long-term care home in Windsor’s Ward 3 is moving through the planning process. Berkshire Care Centre wants to build a new 224-bed, four-storey facility on Hanna Street, just east of Howard Avenue, to replace its aging home at University Avenue West and Dougall Avenue. A public information meeting was held last week, where residents raised concerns about parking, noise and density. Councillor Renaldo Agostino says most questions were addressed and he believes the project is a good fit for the neighbourhood as the current facility beings to show its age. “These are our seniors and we’ve got to give them the best quality of life we can at the end because that’s what they deserve and a brand new facility will work wonders for them,” Agostino said. He says the proposed site offers some key advantages. “There’s already some medical there, it’s on a bus line. There’s more parking for visitors, and that’s been one of the big issues at its current location is there’s not enough parking for families and friends to come visit the long-term care patients,” he said. The proposal still requires city approval, with the rezoning application expected to be reviewed by the Development and Heritage Committee before heading to council for a final decision. Agostino says residents can continue providing feedback as the proposal advances. “Certainly when it comes to development and heritage, the community will have a chance to voice its concerns and then obviously once it comes to city council, residents once again will have a chance to voice their concerns,” he said. “We’re here to listen and I know that the team at Berkshire and Dillon are ready to listen as well and make adjustments if necessary.” Written submissions are still being accepted by the developer until Wednesday Aug. 19, 2026 by email to: openhouse@dillon.ca. Agostino says he hopes the application reaches committee before the end of the current council term, with construction potentially beginning sometime next year.
