A 24-year-old man is charged with drug and other offences after Winnipeg police say he fled a traffic stop, hit another vehicle and ran from officers on foot. Police say officers began investigating suspected drug trafficking in September involving an individual and a residence in the 300 block of Stradbrook Avenue. On Sept. 22, officers tried to stop a vehicle, which police say fled and collided with another vehicle. The man was arrested a short time later after a brief foot pursuit. No injuries were reported from the collision. Police then executed search warrants on the man’s vehicle and a residence in the 300 block of Stradbrook Avenue. They say they seized three ounces of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $6,000, about $30,000 in Canadian currency and about $13,000 in counterfeit currency. Officers also seized packaging and other drug paraphernalia, a scale, a vacuum sealer, a fraudulent photo ID and three cellphones. He was initially released without charges pending further investigation. On Sept. 25, officers then located him in the 1100 block of Main Street, where he was arrested without incident. Police say they seized about $3,900 in Canadian currency and a cellphone at the time of arrest. The man is charged with several offences, including possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of counterfeit money and flight while pursued by a peace officer. He was released on an undertaking. The charges have not been tested in court.
