Winding along the Mille Îles River, Terrebonne’s waterfront parks boast beautiful views of rapids and aquatic birds. But people living in the area say for the past few months the view has been sullied by the wreckage of a car that is stuck in the middle of the water. One woman out for a walk told CTV News she “noticed it back in March but thought it was a Sea-Doo,” and now with the water levels lowering, she can clearly see it’s an abandoned car. The silver car is in rough shape. It’s littered with debris, its windows are smashed, and the trunk is badly damaged. Terrebonne police say the car hasn’t been recovered because the current is too strong. “It would be too risky for our personnel to go and retrieve that vehicle at this time,” said Terrebonne police Capt. Vincent Charbonneau. Locals frustrated It’s a frustrating situation for some Terrebonne residents who say the car is tarnishing an otherwise beautiful view of the water. They also have questions. “Maybe a body is in there,” said one woman walking through the park. “We don’t really know, right? We don’t know where it came from.” “It worries me a bit,” says another woman while having lunch with a friend along the waterfront. “I want to know what happened. Were people inside? Did they manage to get out?” Terrebonne police want to assure the public that no bodies were found inside the car when it was checked a few weeks ago. “The vehicle was inspected by helicopter with the help of the Sûreté du Québec,” said Charbonneau, adding that police have identified the owner of the vehicle but won’t release further details because the investigation is ongoing. In the meantime, people in Terrebonne will have to look at the car for a while longer.
