Metropolitan Expressway (Highway 40) closed in Montreal this weekend for paving

Montreal commuters were stuck in traffic after major closures on the Metropolitan Expressway (A-40) due to paving work that is being redone for a fourth time.

Drivers should be aware of a major closure coming up this weekend that is expected to cause significant traffic delays.

Highway 40 eastbound will be completely closed between the Côte-de-Liesse interchange and Highway 15 between 11:30 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.

The following closures will be in effect from Friday at 11 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.

• Onramp to Highway 40 (Metropolitan) E from Cavendish Boulevard
• Ramp from Highway 520 E to Highway 40 (Metropolitan) E
• Onramp to Highway 40 (Metropolitan) E from Marcel-Laurin Boulevard;
• Ramp from Highway 40 (Metropolitan)

Traffic will be diverted onto the Côte-de-Liesse service road, but the Transport Ministry is advising drivers to avoid the area.

Drivers are being asked to take an alternative route: Highway 13 (Chomedey) northbound, Highway 440 (Jean-Noël-Lavoie) eastbound, and Highway 15 (des Laurentides) southbound.

The work may be postponed, extended, or cancelled due to adverse weather conditions or operational constraints.
