Weather advisories in the Montreal area have changed slightly for the weekend, going from freezing rain to snow... followed by freezing rain. Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Friday for the Montreal, South Shore, and Vaudreuil areas, saying that around five centimetres of snow is forecast to fall, followed by five millimetres of freezing rain. That statement was upgraded to a warning on Saturday morning. In Laval, from 10 to 15 millimetres of freezing rain is expected. The precipitation should start Saturday evening and end Sunday morning. “Pavement, sidewalks and surfaces will become icy and slippery,” the statement reads. “Travel conditions could be difficult locally. Power outages are possible.” It is recommended to take proper precautions for those planning on being out and about, and always allow more time for travel. In addition, approximately 3 cm of snow is expected to fall on Sunday during the day, and it could be quite treacherous getting around. There are also snowfall warnings in the Matagami and Abitibi regions towards Mont-Laurier.
