Montreal police (SPVM) have launched a criminal investigation after the force’s Sexual Assault Unit was informed that sexual acts may have been committed against a young girl attending a day camp in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough. The SPVM confirmed that the suspect in the case is also a minor who worked at the camp. In a written statement, the interim director general at Loisirs Sophie-Barat day camp, Ghita Boulaich, said the staff member was removed from all duties. “We are deeply saddened and shaken by the allegations that have been brought to our attention,” Boulaich said. “Loisirs Sophie-Barat has always been committed to providing children with a safe, caring and enriching environment, and we understand the concerns this situation may cause within our community.” According to police, the alleged acts would have occurred in July 2026. The suspect has been interviewed and questioned by SPVM investigators, who continue to gather and analyze information in order to advance the investigation. “We understand that this news may raise concerns among parents of children enrolled at the day camp. In its letter to parents, the camp administration also invited parents to contact them if they have any questions or concerns,” the SPVM said in a statement. The camp confirmed that it “promptly” informed families of the allegations and made resources available to them. “We remain available to listen, provide support and respond to their concerns to the extent that we are permitted to do so,” Boulaich said. “Out of respect for the process and to preserve its integrity, we will not comment further on the matter at this time. We will continue to fully co-operate with the appropriate authorities and support the families concerned.” The SPVM urged parents to contact investigators at 514-280-8502 if they learn that their child experienced or witnessed any offence.
