Saskatchewan RCMP are asking for the public’s help to locate the occupants of a vehicle tied to a shooting in Pelican Narrows. Police say they want to speak with anyone who saw a black 2016 Dodge Journey with Saskatchewan licence plate 894 KUG in the Pelican Narrows area late Sept. 20 or early Sept. 21. According to police, the vehicle is tied to a shooting that was reported early Sept. 21. RCMP say a firearm was discharged at another vehicle around 1 a.m., leaving one occupant injured. Officers later located a suspect vehicle, initiated a pursuit and fired at the vehicle after it failed to stop. The vehicle was later abandoned on Highway 135 and its occupants are believed to have fled on foot. No arrests have been made. Now, multiple agencies are investigating the incident, including Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert Serious Crimes Unit, Pelican Narrows RCMP, Sandy Bay RCMP and specialized RCMP units such as Police Dog Services, Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, the Critical Incident Response Program and the Forensic Identification Section. RCMP say the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) was notified because an RCMP firearm was discharged during the investigation. The agency determined the incident was outside its mandate. Mounties say the residents of Pelican Narrows and the surrounding area will continue to see an increased police presence and that they will notify the public if an imminent safety risk is identified.
