Nearly two weeks after a shooting in Maple Ridge, the victim has died in hospital. The 56-year-old succumbed to his injuries Monday, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which is now leading the investigation into the shooting. The victim’s name is not being shared publicly because investigators don’t feel it would help advance their efforts, IHIT said Wednesday. The man had been in hospital since the night of Aug. 18, when he was shot in a residential neighbourhood. Emergency crews found him critically injured inside a vehicle on 236 Street. The motive behind the shooting is unclear, but IHIT described the incident as targeted, and involving people who knew each other. In a statement, IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong said investigators are continuing to speak with the victim’s family and friends to “gain an understanding of his activities, relationships and movements leading up to his death.” IHIT asked anyone with information to contact its tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
