A 72-year-old man from Blind River has been charged following an incident last weekend in which a group of teens was threatened by a driver. Ontario Provincial Police responded around 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 29 to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Provencher Lane and Hudson Street in Blind River. “Investigation determined the suspicious person was following five youths in a vehicle and attempting to strike them with the car,” the OPP said in a news release Sept. 2. “Earlier, the driver became confrontational and threatened to physically harm them. Police later located the grey car on Lakeside Avenue, conducted a traffic stop, and subsequently arrested the driver.” OPP Const. Bev Gauthier said the youths, ages 14 to 15, were minding their own business when the suspect came at them. “They were on their bicycles,” Gauthier said in an email. “They tried to evade him, but he wouldn’t let them be ... No one was hurt. He scared the kids.” The 72-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. Police haven’t said whether there was a cause or an event that led to the incident. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Nov. 5.
