A dump truck driver forgot to lower his trailer box and now faces careless driving charges. Barrie police were called to Lockhart Road after a dump truck left a construction site with its box in the raised position on Wednesday around 4 p.m. The box struck overhead power lines and brought the live hydro lines down, creating a safety hazard and a power outage in the immediate area. The 37-year-old Brampton man was charged with careless driving. Police remind drivers of commercial vehicles to ensure their vehicle and equipment are properly secured before travelling, especially when driving in areas with overhead hydro lines. Anyone who encounters power lines should avoid touching the lines or anything in contact with them and call 911.
